Riona Buthello
In a New York Minute
This piece sits at a different point in the journey of Between Worlds, where the view has lifted far above the windows I grew up looking through. I used deep blues and scattered city lights to show how New York feels when you see it from a distance, full of energy yet softened by the rain on the glass. The droplets turn the skyline into something slightly blurred, like a moment moving quicker than you can hold onto it. This print has been brought back from the archive especially for this occasion, reintroduced in a new form and printed on German Etching paper. Revisiting it made me think about how far perspective can stretch, from childhood rain-soaked windows to scenes that feel bigger than you. I hope it gives the viewer a sense of that shift and the feeling of standing somewhere between what you remember and everything that comes next.
