This piece captures Manchester in its truest form, full of movement and colour even when the rain comes down in sheets. I used cool blues for the buildings and strong reds and yellows for the lights to show the way the city stays alive through the blur. The droplets on the window shift everything into a different kind of focus, where the rush of traffic and the glow of the streets blend together. This print has been brought back from the archive especially for this occasion, reintroduced in a new form and printed on German Etching paper. Revisiting it reminded me of how fast the city moves and how familiar that rhythm still feels. I hope it gives the viewer a sense of that energy, the pulse of rain and light that makes Manchester what it is.
